Bloodywood

Bloodywood. Strange name. Catches the eye, no matter where you're from. Which is sorta why we chose it. More than that, through all the thought we've put into it, and through all the chats we've had about it, it's come to mean the exact conceptual counterpoint, or even antidote, to the overwhelming mainstream.

Motherswear

Been a while since my last post, and so much has happened, that it seems even longer. First up, Penta TV is turning into a lotta fun. Papal’s episode was totally out there!! I laughed my ass off!

Then, of course, the work that Randolph and I put in to the album before he left for NY to promote Shaa’ir and Func’s latest. We wrote a killer idea on a loop he came up with. It was tentatively entitled “technology”, but it’s become a song about a girl. A beautifully twisted girl.

But the event that’s got most of my attention this week, is the announcement we made. Actually, it’s a bit of a double-announcement. First, it’s the announcement of our events+festivals company, which bears the beautiful name “Motherswear”.

Secondly, the BIG NEWS!! That the first Festival we’re putting together is the “Invasion festival” in January. THE PRODIGY is headlining!! Woohoo!!! Sometimes, serendipity plays out beautifully. This is one of those times. Vijay Nair and I, along with everyone at OML, have been talking for a long time, about bringing bands who are current and active, down to India. Much as we love the classics, we’ve been a little upset that none of the events promoters were focussed enough on bringing down bands from the current generation. so, naturally, things fell together to allow us to put our resources where our mouths are!

Vijay met the right people at the right time, and put a lot of work into this. I got to sit back, and be a silent partner, just happy to be along for the ride. Of course, the real hard work starts now. We HAVE to make sure this one goes brilliantly, so that word spreads that we have our shit together, and that India isn’t the scary, haphazard organizational nightmare that it seems to be sometimes.

But it’s gonna be totally worth it!! because the Prodigy is utterly committed to doing this right! They are coming in, all guns blazing. Their full rig, all the stuff that makes them one of the greatest acts to watch, in the world! All the bells and whistles, the whole kaboodle! I’m like a kid in a toy-store, I’m that excited! I can not wait for that super-subsonic kaboom to rattle my teeth!!

Oh, and Pentagram shares their stage!! Woohoo!! This is gonna be one LOUD show!!

Going Back

This is crazy. It’s been 16 years with Pentagram and I feel strange writing a blogpost.

I feel like I’m from another age and space, sometimes. Most would agree in a literal sense, but I’m talking about the time when we would copy cassettes from cassettes and copy CD recordings onto cassettes. I sometimes feel that the world has moved along just to my advantage. Being able to make music at home, that’s what I’m talking about. i always wished that I would have my own studio one day, and i still cant afford the kind of studios that you saw back in the day, but the fact that i can do it all on my laptop and my trusty pair of monitors and a sound card, is just perfect. And the most important evolution being ‘portability’. Through all the MySpace and Facebook and twitters, that I still have only a little knowledge about, I now find ourselves going back to an older, roots’ier tradition of a website that will connect us, like never before, to our fans. Its been a real long journey, yet so much more to share and so much more to learn. I can’t say anything more than there ain’t a better time. The band has come together like never before, with our sound and ideas and our way and understanding of life. From now on, as if it were a fresh start, its going to be an insight into, if I might say, one of the most influential bands in the country, our lives through our music. Buckle up!

Day 1, Blog 1

It’s day one of our new site, and this is really exciting for me. This is where we’re gonna preview new music, videos, podcasts, the works. Woohoo! It’s also exciting because, believe it or not, this is the third or fourth time we’ve put sites together, but somehow they were either too freaky or too basic, and didn’t quite cut it, over the long run. This one works though. I hope! Hahaha!Anyhow, I’ve spent the last day, thinking about what I’m gonna say here. And to tell the truth, I have no idea. I mean this is sorta like Twitter but with word-diahorrea. On that, ever considered how much more efficient we would be if all conversation was limited to 140 characters? Ladies?

Right, where was I? Ah, yeah, I want to be witty, and entertaining, and I want for people who read this to say “What a suave, sexy, intelligent guy!”. Only if they’re hot girls though. If you’re a man, and you’re thinking that, it ain’t gon’ happen, bruvver!
But, sadly, having read this back, I realize that man, woman or child, the people reading this are going “What a frikkin’ waste-of-space doofus!” Such is life.

This is my first “blog” ever, though, so indulge me.
So, yeah, I think I’ll stick with the idea behind this site. We wanna get everyone involved. Pentagram’s always been about pre-viewing our music to people, at the shows. Whenever we write a new song, we usually start to play it, well before we record it, so we can figure out how to make it even better.

This place is built around that idea, but going beyond just the music. Sure, we wanna let everyone into the actual process of creation of the songs, the ideas, the hooks, the riffs. We want you guys to be on-stage with us, the first time we play these songs. We want to know what you think, and how you like the new stuff. Sure, we want to run video ideas by you, maybe even get some of you to make some for us. But, we also want you guys to see what it takes to pull this off. I believe that Pentagram is the only band in this country to have started something and seen it thru, to the extent that we have, even if I say so myself. And none of that could have happened without the commitment of the people involved. The four of us, and everyone else who makes this happen, from our families, to all the wonderful people who have believed in us and supported us, and most importantly, the people who come to the shows, and listen to the music. We want all of you here. That aside, we also want to share with you guys the utter and absolute nonsense that goes on backstage, on stage, in the studios/recording sessions, on the road, the works. I mean, we probably spend a lot more time laughing our asses off, than we do playing or writing. So basically, if you’re here, reading this, you are now a fully-paid-up, card-carrying member of the Pentagram circus. Welcome to the chaotic,
hypnotic, tripno-mental home of, as far as we’re concerned, the coolest band in the world.
